Hiking in Morocco can be a safe and memorable experience as long as you take the necessary precautions, such as choosing to hike with a local registered guide who knows the safest routes and where to camp overnight.
Atlas Mountain is a nice destination that you can go to for the whole year. Although the right time to hike is typically between April and October, some may find the heat during that time too intense to complete the long-distance routes. Similarly, in winter there are chances of snowfall and temperature decreases to minus.
If you're thinking about hiking Mount Toubkal, you'll need to hire a registered local trekking guide. This is now mandatory to hike the mountain. All climbers attempting to summit Jbel Toubkal must first check-in and register at the checkpoint in Aroumd Village. Beyond that checkpoint, you will need to be accompanied by a local guide to proceed. Be sure to have your identification on hand for registration.
Mount Toubkal is a popular mountain to hike and is doable for most people who are physically fit, however, during the winter season when there is snow, it requires a specific set of skills to hike it.
